Job: Business development manager

We’re hiring a business development manager to look after our sales and business development (Perm. Part-time or Full-time, Flexitime) to join our growing team.

Term: Permanent. Part-time or full-time.
Salary: £25,000-£30,000 per annum pro rata (plus commission)
Reporting to: Managing Director


  • Flexible working hours and locations;

  • Yearly training budget (£1,000 per employee);

  • 25 days’ holiday + bank holidays (holidays pro rata);

  • Company pension contribution;

  • a MacBook Air and other kit as needed;

  • Some allocated time for Industry-Sharing related tasks such as researching and writing blog posts, preparing and giving talks at meet-ups and conferences (Only if this is your cup of tea, this is not required).

Fruto is a UX Design studio based in Oxford. We design intuitive interfaces and meaningful experiences for the web, mobile and emerging technologies. You’ll work closely with the Managing Director and contribute to the business and sales strategy. We’re a small company and there is a real opportunity to be involved in the company’s strategy and help define the direction of the company’s sales and business development as we grow.

Role responsibilities

Sales & relationship building

  • Research and identify new business opportunities

  • Lead generation and sales activities

  • Manage and monitor the sales pipeline

  • Lead new business activities with prospects and existing clients

  • Create reports about our sales funnels

  • Actively engage and work alongside senior management up to CEO level in relationship development. “Relationship Development at all levels especially from Senior Management to CEO”

  • Attend networking events and create relationships across the network

Account management

  • Pro-actively lead and directly manage a number of client relationships, acting as their point of contact whilst considering their current and future requirements

  • Responding to client (new and existing) requests for quotes and proposals

Proposals & tenders writing

  • Prepare proposals and bids for new and existing clients

  • Prepare presentations and lead pitches

  • Contract negotiations


  • Contribute to the marketing strategy and activities

The ideal candidate

  • The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of experience in business development, sales or similar roles

  • Experience working in a similar industry to us such as design, digital or technology

  • You have excellent people skills and love creating and nurturing relationships. Our approach is consultative selling so the ability to create professional relationships is incredibly important to this role.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and active listening skills

  • You are self motivated with the drive to achieve results

  • You have business acumen and you are financially aware

  • You love good design and good user experiences and want to be part of a team that is delivering the best design we can to our clients


  • Experience working with senior-level clients

  • Understanding of digital project (web/mobile apps) design process

  • Experience working with digital biz dev tools such as Pipedrive, Panda Docs, etc.


Fruto is predominantly a remote team based in Oxfordshire.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, we are not having any in-person client meetings and we're all working from our own homes. When things get back to "normal", you can work remotely from your home or from a coworking desk that we can provide in central Oxford. You must be able to attend regular in-person meetings in Oxford (at least once a week) and occasionally travel to client meetings in South-East England.

Working hours

The hours for this part-time role are negotiable.
Our standard weekly working hours for full-time is 35 hours per week and our core working hours are 10am until 3pm, being flexible on either side.

Some networking events are in the evenings, usually between 5pm-9pm. We envisage you attending at least two of those a month as part of your working hours.
